Location

We have already mentioned HCFA/CMS Places of Service in the definition of facility.  HCFA/CMS has defined a list of Place of Service codes and descriptions.  These Places of Service fall into categories such as "Office", "Home", "In-Patient Hospital", "Out-Patient Hospital", "Ambulatory Surgical Center", "Long-Term Care Facility", etc.  The codes representing the "Place of Service" must be reported on all claims.

Large multi-specialty hospital facilities support both In-Patient and Out-Patient services.  Depending on the facility, other Places of Service may be supported as well.  Therefore, when we talk about a location we are really referring to a place of service within a facility.  Location is a standard sort and control-break function in the software.
